A Balloons Eye View

Journalist On The Run

If you’re a regular reader of my blog, you’ll know that last Thursday I lost my amazing GoPro camera, after attaching it to 23 helium balloons, and watching in dismay after the wind snapped the rope and it floated high into the sky over county cork. (You can read about all the drama HERE.)

What you might not know is that I was stopping at nothing to get that camera back! I contacted the local radio station, and used the power of social media to get the word out to everyone in the area to keep an eye on the skiesfor a crazy contraption consisting of 23 balloons, a styrofoam mount and a tiny little camera!

On Good Friday I had an email from a girl I sister went to school with, Debbie Deane, saying her husband had found my camera in one of their fields, over 20km…

North Korea is in Charge of World Disarmament – Part 3

Members of CD (Conference on Disarmament).

With righteous indignation, the peace loving government of North Korea lambastes Canada for it’s decision to boycott the UN Conference on Disarmament for the duration of North Korea’s chairmanship.  In response, Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister, John Baird said that Canada would wear the criticism as a badge of honour.

Simply put, this is a major oxymoron and another reason that the United Nations is becoming more and irrelevant on issues such as this.  Another reason to be proud to be Canadian.  We are the only country to protest this decision to allow the North Koreans the chair.

Bob Rae – I’m "Super Elite" – and a Fool

Picture of Bob Rae

There are leaders and then there are people who think they are.  Bob Rae thinks he is.  Canada’s Liberal Party leader (for now) has a rather warped sense of self importance.  Imagine the situation as described in this link and then think “sense of entitlement”  The taxpayer foots the bill for most, if not all, of his air fare.  He uses (I assume) his Aeroplan to amass vast amounts of frequent flyer miles, ramping himself to “Super Elite” status.  Then he uses this taxpayer fed status to worm his way on to a flight ahead of several people who had just been told there were no seats.  Lack of class, perhaps.  Lacl of common sense, definitely.  The optics are brutal and heighten the public’s current perception of both him and the party he represents as both elitist and entitlement driven.

I Love the CBC

CBC Television

A Happy Canada Day from what may be the dumbest news organization on the planet.  A poll, conducted by an Ontario University (funded by my tax dollar I assume)  lists Canadian cities in order of their Canuckiness.  Guess how many are West of Sudbury.  If you said none, you would be correct.  Apparently true Canadians only live in eastern Canada, as in Ontario.  The measurements used are interesting as well.  They used the number of breweries, the number of Tim Hortons outlets and the number of maple syrup producers per 100,000 residents and included a measurement for hockey teams (all) and,of course, bilingualism.  I love the comments as well.  By the way, thank you CBC for pointing out what poor Canadians we are out here in the West by not creating maple syrup and not having enough bilingual people.

North Korea is in Charge of World Disarmament – Part 2

Update:

This link points out that Canada is the only country to speak out on this travesty.  John Baird, Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister,  has asked the North Koreans to pass on the appointment.  In addition, he said that Canada will be reviewing it’s participation in the conference.  The ONLY country, wow.  I am proud of our country for this, and our government.  Happy Canada Day!

From the very foolish file comes this tidbit.  Believe it or not, North Korea has taken over the chairmanship of, get this, the UN Conference on Disarmament.  I have no idea where this comes from but it is on par with the United Nation’s endorsement of Iran’s proposed anti-terrorism conference in Tehran.  The world is going crazy in a hurry or am I missing something logical in here.

Now I Believe Everything They Say About UBB

Thanks Bell Canada, thanks for strengthening my disbelief at anything you have said, or will say, about UBB.  They have been fined 10 million smackeroos for misleading advertising about pricing of their services.  I assume the 10 million will be made up by an increase in my cell rates to pay for, let’s see, network upgrades, or carbon credits or some other fictitious reason.

Brian Burke Disses Winnipeg and Their Hockey Future

Brian Burke, the current General Manager and P...

Brian Burke - Thinking up Insults - Image via Wikipedia

You have to admire Brian Burke‘s hockey acumen.  His work with the Vancouver Canucks and Anaheim Ducks was outstanding (the Toronto Maple Leafs, not so much, but then who cares).  His biggest issue is his mouth.  He continually shoots from the lip with no regard to how people perceive him.  Still thinks he’s with the Canucks, I guess.  At any rate, he dissed Winnipeg‘s ability to keep their hard fought new team.

My Name is “2 Calgary Men”, and We Are Fools

Read this article in the Calgary Herald.  These two gentlemen definitely qualify for the prestigious Fool Award.  The headline says it all, but I especially enjoyed the final sentence.  All at once everybody, say “Do You Think!!!”
