Song Of The Day – Meredith Shaw – “Call It A Night”

Meredith Shaw, Toronto born, is both a singer songwriter and a radio personality.  The messenger and the message, cool.  She has a weekend show on 97.3 in Toronto, in which she interviews talent etc.  She has 1 album out, (2011’s Place Called Happy) which was produced by Big Sugar’s Gordie Johnson and 1 EP (also 2011, Trouble) which was produced by Joel Plaskett.  This tune, “Call it a Night” showcases her personality and style and is done live as well.  Great song.

Panorama – Last Day

View from very near the top. Good day again and I’ll stop complaining about the snow. Out of here in the morning. Bought some skis and doing Sunshine on the 28th. See you soon.

Panorama – The Second Day

Started the day with a very wee bit of new snow and a ton of fog up high. The lower runs basically suck, unless you like skating more than skiing. Did find some decent runs off the Toby lift. Late start so only got 6 or 7 runs in. Took a couple of pics

What I Learned Last Week

Let’s see, what struck me this week.  Struck me and will, perhaps, stick with me.

1. It is freaking cold in Antarctica.  Like minus 135.8 degrees (F) cold.  Story here

2. James Bond drinks enough to be an alcoholic.  Some doctors, with way to much time on their hands, read all the Bond novels and measured his alcohol intake.  Story here

3. Winter driving is dangerous

Song Of The Day didn’t have to go far for this one.  Tegan and Sara formed right here in Calgary back in 1995 and have had major success with their indie style music.  This song, “I Was a Fool” is from their latest album “Heartthrob”, which was released earlier this year.  I have chosen a live performance for you to enjoy.  An absolutely terrific tune.

Maligne Canyon – Jasper, Alberta

Maligne canyon is a must see sight in Jasper National Park.  Jasper Park is situated about 360 KM west of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and can be reached via the Yellowhead Highway (Hwy 16).

I took this shot many years ago (1991?) and is taken looking down into the canyon from the decking that goes through and around the site.  Very impressive place, but only one of many in the park.  On a personal level, Jasper is Banff without the crowds.  In comparison, it is far more natural and focused on preservation.  There is a great ski hill (Marmot Basin), and the standard resort amenities, but has unique charm that I enjoy when we visit.
